Reading Newsgroups
If you subscribe to a news server, you can use Microsoft
Internet Explorer to read or post messages in Usenet newsgroups.
To configure Microsoft Internet Explorer to access newsgroups
- From the View menu, choose Options.
- Choose the News tab, if necessary.
- Select the Use Internet Explorer To Read Internet Newsgroups check box.
- In the News Server Address box, type the domain name or IP address
of your news server.
- Choose OK.
To read newsgroups
- To list the available newsgroups, type news:* in the URL
box. An alphabetical list of newsgroups with brief descriptions
appears. To list the messages in a newsgroup, click the name of
the newsgroup.
- To access a particular newsgroup, type the URL by using the
syntax news:newsgroup. For example: news:news.announce.newusers
Notes
- Unlike other URLs, newsgroup URLs do not include slashes (//) after
the colon (:).
- When you first access a newsgroup, the subject lines of the
first 20 messages are listed. Click a subject line to display
the full message. If a message is related to other messages,
hyperlinks to the related messages are provided.
- To list a range of messages, type the URL of the newsgroup,
followed by a slash and the range of messages. For example: news:news.answers/38179-38198
